In Part 1 of our interview with Business Spotlight, Katlyn Paskorz , we dive into how she made the leap from working in banking, to web designer and entrepreneur.
Katie started at a bank after graduating college, simply because they were one of the few employers to offer full time work with benefits, during a recession. For lack of better words…it wasn’t her favorite job.
Seeing her dissatisfaction, Katie’s husband, a software engineer, encouraged her to learn front-end development. Katie gave every excuse to avoid it—”I don’t have time”, “I’m not smart enough”… With his continued push, she finally gave in and enrolled on her first course. Katie surprised herself, passing one after another, building her confidence to actually pursue this path.
Katie decided to see if she could get a freelance gig out of her new skillset, and joined Upwork. It took a bit of time, but she eventually landed her first client, which snowballed into another, and another. With Upwork taking a chunk of her earnings, she determined it was time to step out on her own, leading to her founding Katydid PGH ✨
Throughout her experience starting a business, Katie has always held one core value:
Collaboration over competition. She believes there’s room for everyone. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and more importantly, give any help you can to others.
It was fate running into Katie right after deciding C&J finally needed a website. Much to our surprise, the process was simple, FAST, and stress-free 🧘🏽
If you’re watching this with ‘Website’ gathering dust on your business to-do list…take this as a sign to reach out to Katie, and learn how her services can help you finally tick that box ✅
