Business spotlight – AEisha m carter, maeD part one

December 1, 2023

Presenting Part 1/2 of our highly anticipated interview with Aeisha M Carter, MAEd ⬇️

Aeisha growing up in a military family had values like productivity and community instilled in her from childhood. These principles, combined with her travels, opened her mind and world view. Eventually her desire to be a business owner was kindled, with the outcome being Tutelage Residential Services, LLC. Her company provides “a safe and nurturing environment for individuals with intellectual, developmental disabilities and autism that fosters growth, independence and choice.”

Before you can fully grasp the scope of Aeisha’s work, we have to pedal back to the story of her company’s founding—which is quite a remarkable one…

At 35, Aeisha determined it was now or never if she was to realize her dream of being a business owner. She shared her vision with a trusted coworker, admitting she was some funds short of making it happen. Two weeks later, that coworker returned with a certified check saying, “Go be great, I believe in you…pay me back when you can.” That was the boost she needed to get her business off the ground.

With this last bit of backing, Aeisha took the final leap, cashing out the full 40k of her retirement. She found herself and husband both working additional jobs to make ends meet. Times were tough, but she always fell back on her ‘why’ to get through. 13 months later, Aeisha was able to pay back that coworker, who she remains friends with today, and years later is the owner of a business whose mission she can proudly stand with.

Here are a few gems we took away from Aeisha in Part 1:

💎 Be in the moment. In life and as a business owner.
💎 Aeisha gives a sincere, personal touch to selecting and preparing accommodation for her residents. Bringing compassion and empathy to your work makes all the difference.
💎 Being authentic can help keep you balanced, accountable and present.
💎 Invest in showing up as your best self so that you can show up for others.
💎 Connect with people who have successfully done what you’re doing, and mentors to support you.
💎 Admit when you’re wrong, and move forward.
💎 Be kind.

We think that’s more than enough inspo to get you through the rest of this week. Look out for Part 2, the conclusion of our interview on Monday!
